Ferries

Travel tip: The ferry from Victoria to Vancouver (or Nanaimo to Vancouver if you want to spend more time on Vancouver Island) takes 1.5 hours and runs several times per day, year-round. For more on the ferry schedule and rates:

The ferry between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland (North Sydney to Port-Aux-Basques, on the south-west side of Newfoundland) takes about eights hours, and runs year-round, twice a day (11:45 a.m. and p.m.), unless it’s cancelled due to inclement weather. There is also a ferry during the summer months that takes about 16 hours and gets you straight to St. John’s, shaving off a 10-hour drive across Newfoundland (but it’s considerably more expensive).
